Nissan adding Automatic Emergency Braking to lineup

Nissan adds AEB to eight models

Passenger safety is a top priority for Nissan and its vehicles. Not only is the existing Nissan lineup available at Billion Auto Group routinely among the highest rated vehicles in their class, but the manufacturer is taking its safety priorities to the next level. Starting with the 2018 model year, Nissan will be expanding the availability of Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) to its most popular passenger vehicles. Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield Technologies are a suite of several different systems designed to help keep drivers and their riders out of potentially dangerous situations. The coming expansion of AEB availability will nearly double the number of Nissan vehicles with this advanced capability.

“The big news here is that we’re making AEB standard across all grades of our best-selling models,” Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. said in a press release. “This increased AEB availability is part of our ongoing commitment to help reduce fatalities while realizing our comprehensive vision of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”

What is Automatic Emergency Braking?

In a previous iteration, Automatic Emergency Braking was known by Nissan as Forward Emergency Braking. The name change is unimportant, what does matter is the system’s overall effectiveness. Radar signal emitters and receivers are placed around the car. When the AEB system detects that a driver is closing too quickly or coming too close to an obstacle, a series of alerts will try to get the driver to correct the problem.
