2019 GMC Sierra vs. 2018 Ford F-150

Very few segments of the automotive industry are as competitive as the one occupied by full-size pickup trucks. For the new model year, GMC has redesigned and overhauled what will be available on the upper trims of its Sierra model. As excited as everyone is about the new full-size pickup truck, the automaker still faces an arduous battle to draw people to their side of the battle. An early comparison of the 2019 GMC Sierra vs. 2018 Ford F-150, completed with early release information, shows that GMC has given its latest pickup truck every chance it could to succeed. When the 2019 Sierra arrives, it will feature several new pieces of equipment that aren't available anywhere else in the class. One of the emerging trends in full-size pickup trucks is to find new ways to shed as much unnecessary weight from the platform as possible to help with fuel efficiency. To its credit, Ford did something very interesting when it started building the cargo boxes of the F-150 out of aluminum. GMC saw this move and raised the stakes by making a carbon fiber cargo box available. Engineers at GMC believe that carbon fiber provides all of the weight savings of aluminum but avoids some of the pitfalls – namely the malleable nature of aluminum makes it susceptible to punctures. Going the carbon fiber route all but eliminates this worry. Additionally, the 2019 GMC Sierra introduces ProGrade Trailering system and a companion app that will be an absolute game-changer.

What else does the GMC Sierra offer?

Not only is the 2019 GMC Sierra built from more advanced materials than its Ford competitor, it also revolutionizes the way owners will use the truck. The humble tailgate on select trims of the 2019 GMC Sierra is something completely different. Only buyers of the 2019 Sierra will get access to the MultiPro Tailgate and it's six different configurations. Nothing Ford has announced appears to be able to compete with this feature. Owners will be able to use a second-tier cargo management system to accommodate long or oddly-shaped items. The most impressive configuration is the standing work station.

GMC has always been on the forefront of technology. This trend continues for the 2019 model year. The all-new GMC Sierra will be the first truck in its class to offer a color heads-up display that will allow drivers to get the information they need without taking their eyes off the road. Also, the Rear Camera Mirror was borrowed from Cadillac to change the way GMC drivers attach trailers to the truck. This system offers a few distinct advantages over competing systems from Ford.
