Suicide prevention run slated for October

Life has a tendency to be messy. From time-to-time, people need a kind word, a helping hand, someone to just listen or all of the above. The Help Center of Bozeman provides counseling for people going through a dark time and is the only local suicide prevention hotline in Gallatin County or the surrounding area. Their mission statement says, in part, ‘The intent is to assist clients in gaining insight, clarity, empowerment, client-centered solutions and life improvement in the wake of life’s difficulties and in the aftermath of traumatic events. Billion Auto Group is very proud to be the premier sponsor of the group’s third annual Run For Your Life, offering a 10K or 5K Run/Walk as well as a kid’s run to raise money for suicide prevention resources in our area.
When is the race and where does it start?
The Help Center of Bozeman is putting on its third annual Race For Your Life on Oct. 29. Starting things out will be the kids’ run at 9:30 a.m. The 10- and five-kilometer races start at 10 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., respectively. All of the races will start and finish in Bobcat Stadium at Montana State University. Since the race is happening a few days before Halloween, prizes will be handed out for best costume. Leashed dogs are welcome to run the race as well.

It’s an unfortunate fact that Montana has the highest suicide rate in the United States. These tragedies can be prevented if people know help is available and operations like The Help Center of Bozeman have enough resources.
