When should I replace my tires?

To know when to replace your tires, all you need is a penny. Join us at Billion Auto Group in Bozeman, MT, as we point out some standard identifying methods to know when to replace your tires. Continue reading for more information.

Penny Test for your Tires

Take a penny and hold it in the tread gap of your tires, turn its face towards you, hold it upside down, and check to see if you can see the President’s head or not. If you can see the whole image of the President, then your vehicle does not possess the minimum required tread depth and has reached a worn-out state. In such a scenario, you should immediately replace all your tires.

For maximum accuracy, while conducting this test, ensure that you place the penny in multiple spots across the tires as the tire does not wear evenly, and your first reading could be wrong. Tires also wear depending on the terrain and driving conditions they are exposed to. If they undergo rough driving conditions, the tires will wear out earlier, and you would have to replace them.

It is often recommended that tires be changed once in six to ten years or depending on the wear and tear on the tire. On a worn-out tire, you would notice bulges, cracks, blisters, or other unnatural indicators, which should be your sign to replace your tires immediately.
