Nissan Titan tops class in J.D. Power study for initial quality

Nissan Titan Initial Quality Study Award

In terms of overall competitiveness, not many automotive industry classes are as densely-packed as the full-size pickup truck class. Billion Auto Group is home to several full-size, light-duty pickup trucks from some of the biggest truck manufacturing names in the industry. A recently released Initial Quality Study from J.D. Power and Associates puts the Nissan Titan at the top of that list. The global consumer product-rating agency evaluated more than 250 vehicles covering just about every class of automobile that is for sale in the entire country. Let’s take a look at why the Nissan Titan and the automaker as a whole performed so well.

“It is rewarding to see Nissan’s continuous improvement in the J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study over the past several years, and it is especially good to see TITAN and Maxima win their IQS categories for 2019,” Heath Holtz, senior vice president, manufacturing, supply chain management and purchasing, Nissan North America, Inc., said in a press release. “Initial quality is one important metric for our manufacturing team’s performance, but the pursuit of excellence across the Nissan lineup never stops.”

What set Nissan apart from the rest of the competition?

In order for the Nissan Titan to top its class of the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study, the agency measured how many problems were reported for the first several months a person owned the full-size pickup truck. The Titan topped the Large Light Duty Pickup segment of the study with just 66 reported problems per 100 trucks sold. In addition to putting it ahead of several competitors, the Titan ranked in the top 10 of all vehicles examined.

Elsewhere in the Nissan brand, the Nissan Maxima topped the large car segment of the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. The midsize Nissan Frontier took second in its class and a trio of popular Nissan models (Versa, Murano, Rogue) all took third place in their respective classes. Overall, no Nissan vehicle had the dubious distinction of having more than 100 problems per hundred vehicles reported in the first 90 days of ownership.
