Ram EcoDiesel Performance Specs and Information
The last two years could charitably be called an arms race inside of the full-size pickup truck class of the automotive industry. Ram has fired the most recent shots across the bows of its competitors with its most recent update containing the Ram EcoDiesel performance specs and information. Just like everything else in the automotive industry, diesel engine technology has gone through huge boosts in efficiency and performance. When the truck-maker starts equipping its platforms with this new engine technology, Ram trucks employing the EcoDiesel will produce more torque and have a higher towing capacity than any other half-ton on the market today. Let’s take a look at what customers can expect to see at the Billion Auto Group showroom when the new Ram EcoDiesel engine arrives.
Customers looking at the 2020 Ram 1500 who choose the manufacturer’s diesel powerplant will be getting a turbocharged 3.0-liter, V-6 engine which produces 260 horsepower and a best-in-class 480 pound-feet of torque. Heavy-duty versions of the new Ram 1500 will be able to make as much as 1,000 pound-feet of torque. The changes made to the half-ton truck’s engine represent an eight percent increase in horsepower and a 14 percent increase in torque output. These are very impressive numbers, but what does that actually mean to owners of the 2020 Ram 1500?
For starters, the half-ton version of the 2020 Ram 1500 with the upgraded EcoDiesel engine will be able to tow up to 12,560 pounds, a new high-water mark for the vehicle segment.
“The new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is America’s most powerful half-ton diesel pickup, following up on Ram’s Heavy Duty torque leadership and achieving what no other manufacturer has, with up to 480 lb.-ft. of torque in a 3.0-liter engine,” Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand, said in a press release. “The all-new EcoDiesel engine and our eTorque mild-hybrid powertrain technologies deliver the highest available fuel efficiency for our Ram 1500 customers.”
Final official fuel economy scores will be available closer to the new truck’s on-sale date at Billion Auto Group.
The 2020 model year will also be the first time the incredibly capable and well-equipped Ram Rebel will be available with the EcoDiesel engine.
