How long should headlights on my car last?

It’s very easy to take our headlights for granted. For the most part, they turn on when we want them and we never really have to think about them. As for how long headlights should last depends on a few different factors like when the vehicle was built, the environment the vehicle is used in and the quality of service the vehicle has received. We’ll examine a few things that might be helpful if you’re having some issues with your headlights. If there is something we can do to make your evening trips a little brighter, and safer, please make an appointment with the Billion Auto Group Service Department.

Why are my headlights so dim?

Unless one of your headlights is simply burned out, figuring out why it’s getting tough to see at night could be a few different things. Older models use halogen headlights which work much like the incandescent light bulbs used in our homes. These kinds of headlights can be sealed in vacuum tubes or surrounded by an inert gas. However, a filament is still being heated up to provide light. Vehicles that are driven in rough conditions can cause these headlights to burn out faster.

A very common cause of headlights losing effectiveness is that the lenses have become cloudy. There are several products on the market that will help with this issue. Most of them work well and are pretty affordable. Ask an automotive parts expert for help finding the right product for your needs.

Do I need to replace LED headlights?

The implementation of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) has been a great thing for drivers. First of all, LEDs produce a lot of light while using a fraction of the amount of power compared to older headlights. Unless something goes really wrong, like the headlights get cracked or damaged, a vehicle owner will likely never have to replace LED headlights.

The Billion Auto Group Service Department provides expert service for some of the most popular automakers operating in the United States today. If you’ve been driving with one headlight, we can replace it easily or, if you want to do it yourself, we can order the parts you need.
