Does Jeep offer a hybrid crossover?

Jeep set a sales record for the 2018 calendar year and they have capitalized on that momentum by introducing its all-new mid-size truck platform, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. The entire Jeep lineup available at Billion Auto Group stands out from the rest of the class because of the entire roster’s off-road capability. However, the crossover SUV class is changing yet again, and customers are looking for something different. So, does Jeep offer a hybrid crossover? Not currently, but an announcement originating from the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland signals that could be changing in the very near future. Let’s take a look at this exciting development.

Jeep Renegade and Compass PHEV information

If Jeep does eventually deliver more fuel-efficient models to dealerships like Billion Auto Group, it appears they will be variants of the existing Renegade and Compass models. According to the information released by Jeep’s parent company FCA, it will be employing plug-in hybrid technology to maximize fuel economy without sacrificing performance.

Both models will be able to travel a bit more than 30 miles, at speeds up to 80 miles per hour without ever using a drop of gasoline. Future buyers of the Renegade PHEV and Compass PHEV will use a turbocharged, 1.3-liter engine and will have a performance output range of 190 to 240 horsepower.

These vehicles will still wear the Jeep badge, so they must provide competent and confident handling when the pavement ends. A new electrically-powered all-wheel-drive system will be employed by the new Jeep hybrids that use an electric motor to turn the rear axle. Computers will be able to efficiently redistribute torque to slipping wheels. This should further bolster fuel economy than previous mechanically-driven all-wheel-drive systems.

Drivers will be able to monitor their vehicle’s efficiency performance via specialized center gauge cluster.
