Getting into a car accident is no fun at all. Every day we hop behind the wheel of our car we hope that it never happens to us. If it does happen to us, all we can do is hope that we come out of it in one piece. Of course car accidents happen, it’s a reality of driving on the road. Even safe drivers can get into a car accident no matter how good of a driver they are. Sometimes it’s not your fault and sometimes it is. The good news is that now you’ll at least know what to do if it happens to you.   2. Find a safe place off the road. If your vehicle is still in the road and could possibly be hit by another car and cause another accident, you should pull it off to the side of the road and turn its hazard lights on. The same goes for you, get yourself to a safe spot away from the road and wait for the police and ambulance.
  3. Call the police and report the accident. Even if it’s a minor accident you’ll need to call the police to report it. You’ll need the police report when you file a claim with your car insurance company.
  4. Gather information. Get as much information as you can from everyone involved in the car accident. Information that comes in handy later on includes the names of all the people involved in the accident, license plate numbers, insurance info, make and model of cars involved, eyewitness contact information and even the responding police officers name and badge number.
  5. Take pictures. Snap a few photos of the whole crash scene and of the vehicles involved. The pictures could help during the claims process.
  6. File your claim. The last thing you do after all that is to call you insurance agent and file your claim.
