Steps to Take Whiling Changing Vehicle Tires

Being prepared to change your vehicle’s tires is a valuable skill that can save you time and money. At Billion Auto Group in Bozeman, MT, we believe in empowering drivers with the knowledge they need to tackle everyday maintenance tasks. In this blog post, we’ll provide a step-by-step guide on changing your vehicle’s tires, allowing you to confidently handle unexpected flat tires and maintain your independence on the road.

Essential Points to Follow While Changing A Tire

1. Gather the Necessary Tools: Before you begin, ensure you have the right tools: a spare tire, a jack, a lug wrench, and a wheel chock. Your vehicle’s owner’s manual will guide you to the proper jack points and offer specific instructions for your car.

2. Find a Safe Location: Park your vehicle on a flat, stable surface away from traffic. Engage your parking brake and turn on your hazard lights for added safety.

3. Loosen the Lug Nuts: Using the lug wrench, slightly loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire. Do not entirely remove them at this point.

4. Lift the Vehicle: Place the jack under the designated lift point and raise the vehicle until the flat tire is off the ground. Make sure the car is stable before proceeding.

5. Remove the Flat Tire: Fully remove the loosened lug nuts and remove the flat tire. If the jack fails, place the flat tire under the vehicle as an extra safety precaution.

6. Install the Spare Tire: Align the spare tire with the lug bolts and put it in place. Tighten the lug nuts by hand as much as possible before using the lug wrench.

7. Lower the Vehicle and Tighten Lug Nuts: Slowly remove the vehicle using the jack. Finish tightening the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure even pressure.

8. Double-Check and Store Equipment: After lowering the vehicle, give each lug nut a final tightening. Store the flat tire, tools, and jack securely in your car.
